Turquoise, Pearl & Fairy Opal Necklace
- 99.7 carats rare Carico Lake turquoise
- 18.9 carats bright fairy opal
- AAA grade white freshwater pearls
- Sterling silver
This turquoise, pearl and fairy opal necklace is a one off design handmade from 99.7 carats of genuine, rare, 100% natural and untreated, Carico Lake turquoise. The turquoise takes centre stage in the necklace and is accented with ethically sourced Karen hill tribe silver nugget beads and 18.9 carats of bright, solid, Australian fairy opal. The necklace is finished with AAA grade, slightly off-round, natural white freshwater pearls and a solid sterling silver leaf clasp. A single pearl also sits at the very front of the necklace, bringing the two design elements together.
The fairy opal used in this necklace comes from Queensland, Australia. Fairy opal is a type of treated matrix opal - it is still a naturally mined stone but the opal is given a hot sugar bath treatment that turns the original sandy brown matrix a deep black/brown, which is a) more attractive and b) helps the colours pop out more. It is a lovely kind of opal with colours scattered in pin prick or confetti pattern all over the stone (in fact, it is sometimes known as confetti opal). We had lots of different grades of fairy opal available to us when we purchased our stones. We opted for the highest grade, as it had a greater variety of colours present, with greens/blues/purples/reds & yellows all to be found.
This necklace is fully hallmarked by the London Assay Office and stamped with Sugarpuss London's unique studio maker's mark.
