Sugilite & Pearl Bracelet
- Genuine faceted sugilite rondelles
- Large AAA off-round 6-7mm lavender pearls
- Ethically sourced hammered toggle clasp
- Sterling silver finishing beads & bullion
This sugilite and pearl bracelet is handmade in the Sugarpuss London studio from rare natural faceted sugilite rondelles and large AAA grade off-round lavender coloured pearls. The pearls have been hand picked for their excellent surface quality and are well matched in body tone and are guaranteed to be 100% naturally coloured (rather than dyed). The bracelet is finished with sterling silver beads and bullion and an ethically sourced Karen hill tribe hammered toggle clasp.
Sugilite is also known as wesselite, lavulite and royal azel and the mangansese rich variety (that gives it its purple colour) commands a high price due to the fact thatit can only be mined in one place in the world: the Wessels mine in South Africa on the Kalahari manganese fields. What's more the stone has to be mined 3200 feet below the ground. Although first discovered in 1944, the first commercially exploitable material was only discovered in 1979, meaning sugilite is a fairly new discovery, much like tanzanite.
