Necklaces Rare Welo Opal & Pearl Lariat Necklace (23")
- 2.3 carat rare blue fire Welo opal
- AAA grade pearls
- natural white pearls
- Sterling silver
This silver opal and pearl lariat necklace is a one off design handmade with a rare, 2.3 carat, blue fire opal from the Welo province in Ethiopia. The opal is hand pinned in sterling silver on a handmade and hand soldered silver hoop and presented on a silver chain with two hand wrapped, AAA grade, natural white freshwater pearls.
Ethiopian opal displays a reverse value pattern to Australian opal, with blue fire being the rarest colour and red and green being the most common. The opal used in this necklace has a broad wash of blue fire across the front face. The opal also displays some red and green fire (not captured in the photo). The general shape of the opal is a freeform faceted nugget and the base colour of the stone is a flattering amber (one of our favourite base colours).
The lariat necklace measures 23" in total but, as the necklace is a lariat (clasp-less), it offers a versatile and adjustable wrap up to around 19". The ends of the necklace feature handmade and soldered hoops.
A lariat necklace is an open-ended necklace without a clasp – to fasten you usually tie the chain or cord into a knot or thread one end through the other.
